Lab Terrace is a chill-out space, a terrace with a view. It’s relatively hidden away, although more and more visitors have been discovering the place recently. It opened a couple of years ago. Initially, I would say it was frequented mainly by Faro’s Portuguese upper-middle class.
It’s our favourite place to spend a pleasant late afternoon, preferably with the prospect of a sunset and at high tide. It’s beautiful when the water covers that whole expanse, creating a quiet and serene atmosphere. There’s just the occasional boat cutting through the water and planes landing at the distant airport.
It’s an ideal spot to relax after a day out walking and exploring. The sun loungers are super comfortable, and the drinks are properly chilled. We usually order a Bandida do Pomar, a Portuguese apple cider served with a pinch of cinnamon.
A good book makes a great companion for a visit to Lab Terrace. Sometimes there’s live music or a DJ performing. On those days, it’s a bit noisy and the atmosphere is different.
As far as I know, the space operates under a concession agreement between the science museum for children and the owners of Lab Terrace. They’re a lovely couple who do everything themselves. This means that sometimes the place doesn’t open at all, opens later than usual, or only opens when the weather is favourable. In summer, that’s pretty much every day, but opening hours can be somewhat irregular during autumn and winter.
